As young adults we journeyed to Montrose to forget about Starbucks on every corner and Walmart's presence within a couple of miles to every home. We would drive 30 minutes to grab coffee at Agora or Cafe Brasil to escape it all.
Over the last few years we're slowly seeing change in our city, but the change isn't fast or strong enough. People in this country and around the world are suffering because of Walmart "cutting down prices" with their happy face. I bet these people who make their products aren't too happy with the conditions they work on, or the money they get paid. Heck, some employees of your local Walmart don't seem to be happy themselves.
Most Independent businesses have a soul.
Small businesses are owned by people who have so much passion behind an idea that they went for it. They took the chance to make something happen and are risking everything to bring something original to their community. How boring would this city be if the only type of place to eat was Chili's? How monotone would it be if the only place to buy a cute dress was Target?
We started Space Montrose a year and a half ago. The future holds our hands.
Since then, we've met the faces behind many incredible concepts and businesses in our country. Real people with great ideas and the best intentions to bring something original to this world. Some ideas are more complex than others -There are people who want to change the world and others who want to bring joy to people's lives with their creations.-
Keep mom and pop restaurants alive! Buy local and make an impact!
Dine at their places and keep little boutiques open by purchasing their goods.
Buy local and keep the businesses that keep you inspired in existence. Buy local and keep the people behind businesses inspired to keep trying.
The point of this post is to make you think. There is a reason for insanely low prices.
The only way this world can change is if we make it happen. The individual.
I understand we can't always afford to buy organic or shop independent, but when you can, do so.
Be assured that when you shop in Space Montrose everything is made by real people in our country. People that have a vision. People that were so inspired they went for it.
